Traditional Clevite Tri-Metal bearings have high crush qualities for maximum bearing retention, high-eccentricity to account for bore distortion and reduced overlay thickness. Professional engine builders prefer these bearings because of their medium levels of eccentricity. The rod bearings are now all “HN” narrowed for enlarged crankshaft radius clearance, these bearings supersede all old “H” Series bearings. When a “d” is added to the part number suffix, bearings are drilled for a dowel pin hole, an “X” suffix indicates bearings with .001” added oil clearance. The main sets with a “G” add to the suffix
have a full-groove.
TriArmor engine bearings with a “K” suffix indicates bearings which are coated with a moly/graphite treatment. This is a sophisticated blend in a low friction PTFE polymer base offers extraordinary protection and an anti-wear agent to reduce engine temperatures. Micro-babbitt bearings “M” add to suffix, are designed for hard pounding acceleration applications as blown alcohol or nitro based fuel classes. A micro-thin layer babbitt material, softer than Tri-Metal, provides a higher degree of protection to discourage bearing wiping and crankshaft scorching caused by deflection and edge loading.
Most engine bearings are available in Standard, .010”, .020”, .030” or 25mm, 50mm,
75mm metric sizes for crankshaft regrinding to match the correct journal size.
For specific oil clearance, bearings are available .001”, .009”, .011”, .019”, .020”, .021” undersized for Chevrolet applications finite oil tolerance. Rod bearings are sold each,
while main bearings are sold as a set.
